The Belters won for the first time, on their own merit, after an unexpected performance. Their previous win was due to a team cheating to get an answer so The Belters felt it was like winning through a default error.
Well done The Belters, it may well be a while before you do it again.
Winning on the last question for 100 points they take the £25 Cuddie Brae voucher and the nearest wins prize of a box of chocolates.
Another decent turnout again this week and again we had four teams in the running for the last, nearest wins, question. Bubble & Squeak held the lead throughout the night only to be pipped at the post by The Belters.
Dumb & Dumber finished in last to win the booby prize of a bag of chocolates. A big celebration from them happy to be last is a testament to their mentality! I sometimes wonder about these guys but I think there is an ulterior motive. We will find out soon!
Another New Team
We welcomed another new team this week. McNally is a team of four, two from Edinburgh and two from Omagh in Northern Ireland. If it wasn’t for the very poor performance by Dumb & Dumber, another Irishman, they would have been last. By their own admission, their normal place at a SpeedQuiz is about 9th, playing at a venue in Edinburgh.
It was good to see you guys and that you enjoyed your visit. So much so that one of the Irish girls is looking into starting a SpeedQuiz in her hometown! If you need any advice just get in touch.
Don’t be strangers and come back soon.
Scoreboard
There was another close finish to the quiz tonight. Right at the top, there were four teams running close before the nearest wins question was won by The Belters. Another close group of four teams in the middle of the table then McNally, our new team, were their usual 9th and Dumb & Dumber where they duly belong, LAST!
The Rocks were concerned that their handicap would leave them lingering about at the foot of the scoreboard but they turned it around, finishing in third and just missing the win. They definitely underestimate themselves.
Jackpot Games
After a good win last week, Open The Box reset to the start with every ball back in play. There were the usual two attempts to win the full jackpot of £450 then the lower jackpot of £225 but neither was a winner.
The jackpot for Open The Box carries on to next week at £480.
I am now limiting the lower jackpot to £250 maximum. This will allow even higher jackpots and give me a chance to make some changes on how the game is played to ensure we have more winners. This idea is only in theory right now but hopefully, it will be ready to roll out soon.
Take It Or Leave It remains the regular smaller jackpot winning game. Quiz Khalifa was chosen at random to play. After a couple of bad choices, reducing their potential win, they settled for an early payout of £8 much to the dismay of every other person. Jeering and booing, we can always rely on our lot to speak their minds, those who have one that is!
We all felt better when we continued to play to the end and find out that, if they had persevered, they would have won £12. Not HUGE but 50% more than they settled for. This was received as expected by our ‘sympathetic’ quizzers.
The game continues next week with a jackpot of £50.
