Hi, I’m James — and I’ve been running quiz nights in Edinburgh since 2011.
It started with a simple problem. I’d been hosting pub quizzes the traditional way — answer sheets, pencils, the honour system — and anyone who’s done that knows how it goes. Teams huddle together, phones come out under the table, and half the room spends more time arguing about what counts as cheating than actually enjoying the night.
So when SpeedQuizzing came along, I was immediately interested. No paper. No pencils. Every player, or team uses their own device, answers in real time, and the scores update live on screen for everyone to see. Cheating becomes almost impossible — and more importantly, the whole room actually gets involved.
I’ve been running Premier SpeedQuizzing ever since, and what started as a regular pub quiz night has grown into something I’m genuinely proud of.

What we do
Every event is fully hosted by me or one of my team. That means we handle the setup, the question rounds, the scoring, the banter, and — if you want to keep the night going — the DJ set afterwards too.
A typical night includes a mix of general knowledge, picture rounds, music rounds, and high-energy games like Music Bingo and Play Your Cards Right. The format is designed so that everyone contributes, not just the person on the team who happens to know a lot about history.

The regulars will tell you it’s not really about the quiz. It’s about having a proper night out with people you like — and the quiz just gives everyone something to do together.
The technology helps with that. Because scores update live and everyone’s using their own phone, there’s always something happening. Nobody’s sitting waiting for someone to mark a paper. Nobody’s bored. The room stays loud right up to the final question.

A bit more about me
Outside of quiz nights, I also run Premier Disco — the DJ and entertainment side of things — and offer PAT testing services through Premier PAT Testing. Between the three, I stay pretty busy.
I’m based in Wallyford, Musselburgh, just outside Edinburgh, and cover events across Edinburgh, Central Scotland, the Scottish Borders, and Fife.

All Premier SpeedQuizzing equipment — laptops, PA systems, lighting rigs and cables — is fully PAT tested and covered by public liability insurance. Certificates are available on request for any venue. We also offer professional PAT testing services across Edinburgh and central Scotland for businesses and venues that need their own appliances tested.
