The Nearest Wins question closes every Premier SpeedQuizzing quiz night. No team needs to get the exact answer — the team whose answer is closest to the correct number wins the points. It’s the format that can shake up the leaderboard right at the final moment.
How it works
A question is shown on screen where the answer is a number — a year, a distance, a quantity, a price, a population, a world record. Teams enter whatever number they think is correct. When the timer ends, the correct answer is revealed and every team’s answer is displayed on screen alongside it. The team whose answer is closest wins the points.
There are no wrong answers in Nearest Wins — only closer and further away. A team that has no idea can still guess a number and end up winning the points if everyone else guesses in the wrong direction.
Why it’s the perfect closer
The Nearest Wins question works perfectly as the final question of the night because it keeps every team in the game. A team that’s ten points behind going into the last question can still win it — and the reveal of everyone’s answers on screen always produces a reaction. It’s never a quiet finish.
