This Week’s Winners: Quizzy McQuizface
It’s Been A While
It’s been a while since I posted some photos or reports on who has been winning each week. I have been feckin’ busy! With the wedding season in full fling after the COVID catastrophe, I have been working six nights a week and have worked, on these days, anything from a 9 hour shift right up to a 20 hour shift on Sunday. Add to this all the admin and prep time and I have had very little time to myself.
Hopefully, from now, I can get back into the swing of it with weekly reports.
Quizzy McQuizface won our quiz on May 25th 2022. In what was an easy win Quizzy McQuizface stormed into an early lead and never looked back. Before the nearest wins 100 point question they had already secured their second victory at The Old Colliery. A new team, Gin Will Fix It, came in second after being awarded 100 points from the last question.
It is encouraging to see the number of people attending The Old Colliery beginning to improve. Hopefully, this will see this quiz continue beyond the initial trial period. It will also be good to see some of our more regular teams return to join us.
I would suggest to anyone looking to attend a future quiz here to reserve their table in advance. There is plenty of space, we are looking to increase the size of the quiz area, but if you want a specific table then you will need to book. See below for information on how to do this.
Scoreboard
We had seven teams in total, five of them visiting for the first time, so most started with only a token handicap. Although there was a nice wee cluster of teams in the middle of the scoreboard, the handicapping, being limited because of the new teams, showed a gulf at both the top and bottom of the final scoreboard.
Quizzy McQuizface has already been mentioned but some of the new teams struggled a bit getting used to the format. Not Got A Clue was totally detached at the end with the Old Cronies taking up the second last spot. The handicaps will sort this all out next time.
Jackpot Games
There were no Jackpot winners this week.
We paid out £4 on Take It Or Leave It to Amanda from Quizzy McQuizface.
The new jackpot is now £30 at our next quiz.
We are beginning to see some traction in this game so the jackpot value should increase over the next few weeks, at least until someone wins the jackpot..
The BIG game, Open The Box, had a jackpot prize of £60. There was no winner so this increases to £70 for our next quiz to be held on Friday, June 2nd..
Music Bingo
Our music bingo theme this week was a selection of songs with a link to Scotland.
New Teams
Of the seven teams attending tonight we had 5 new teams, well sort of.
A Gaggle Of Geese, Blue Boys and Not Got A Clue were all brand new teams having never played before. Old Conies attended a couple of online quizzes during the dreaded lockdown and Gin Will Fix It is one of our pre-COVID teams, good to see you back.
It was great to see you all there and hopefully, you will be coming back to see us soon, and regularly.
The attendances are beginning to take hold. There have been a good number of teams attending over the weeks which can only be a good sign for future quizzes. I definitely recommend booking your tables in advance just in case you turn up and it is busy. You might also get a cool 20% off your food if you have dinner before the quiz.
Book Your Table Now!
With the number of teams increasing and hopefully continuing to do so, it is important to book your table in advance to make sure you get the table you want. There will always be space regardless of how many teams turn up but to get your table, booking is well-advised..

If you leave it too late and can’t book online, contact the Old Colliery directly by phone on 0131 654 2822. They do have a small reserve of tables available after the online booking is full. You never know your table ‘might’ still be available.

Get In Early!
It would be a great help if all teams could be there and ready for 745 pm. This will allow time to get any connection issues sorted as well as the handicapping in place ready to start.
