It’s Been A Few Months Now
It has been just over six months since our Monday night quiz began at The Buccleuch in Dalkeith. Our initial concern about drawing a substantial crowd on a Monday was justified, but we are now making decent headway into this. The number of teams participating has gradually increased to a sustainable level, which bodes well for the future of the event.
Initially, only 3-4 teams took part regularly, but we now see an average of 6-8 teams every week. Building a consistent team base takes time and effort, and we hope to see continued growth in the coming months.
If we compare our current progress to the start of our quiz at the Cuddie Brae on April 19th, 2018, we can observe a similar trajectory. For the first four months, we struggled to attract enough teams to make the event viable. However, the dedication of the then-manager, Elaine, helped us turn the corner.
Within six months, we were regularly drawing 9-10 teams, and now we typically have a minimum of 14 teams, with a maximum of 20 teams (totalling 65 people). We anticipate continued growth in the months ahead, with the possibility of adding more tables to accommodate additional teams.
We are pleased to see a loyal following of regular teams, with new teams joining us for the occasional quiz. Since restarting the quiz after the Covid lockdowns, we have had 107 teams participate, compared to 27 teams at The Buccleuch.
We appreciate the support of the management at The Buccleuch for the quiz over the past six months. It would have been easy to cancel the event after a few unsuccessful attempts, but their dedication has helped us establish a solid foundation. We hope to continue to increase attendance and build a lasting community around our quiz.
