Eleven teams tonight, 12/09/19, and another close finish.
Winners this week
Our winners this week were The Dipshits. Another surprise victory for the self-proclaimed Dipshits who narrowly beat Quiz Khalifa in second place. They are the winners of another £25 gift card to spend at The Cuddie Brae.
We also had a good £25 winner on Take It Or Leave It. Scrambled Eggheads won the draw to play Take It Or Leave It. After what was a very poor start, losing a lot of the higher value boxes, the Scrambled Eggheads settled early for a £25 cash payout.
We continued to play to the end to see what they could have won. Left with the two final boxes, one with £1 and the other with £50, one had to be chosen. The original box taken at the start of the game was chosen to be the one to end the game. That box had £50 inside it and would have been the prize if only they had stuck it out to the end. Fair enough, I would have probably made the same choice and ran with the £25 offered. Well done to The Scrambled Eggheads.
Open The Box remains intact for another week with two failed attempts. The jackpot carries forward to next week with a jackpot of £550.
Scoreboard
Our three new teams this week finished in the bottom three places tonight. Don’t be disheartened as the next time you play, you will have a more accurate handicap and will be far more competitive.
From the scoreboard below it can be seen that six teams were separated by only 61 points. The Scrambled Eggheads and The Boys From Brazil are the best performing teams of those six but the rest have all bunched up around them. Handicaps work, full stop. It is great for the results to be as competitive as they are. Every team CAN win!
Technical Nonsense
We had some technical issues this week again. As you know the apps work on the wifi frequencies, as expected, but the microphone system also works on the very same band. The wireless microphones are a very good brand and are rated very highly, they even search out free frequencies to operate on.
I have scanned the wifi at The Cuddie Brae and there are no less than 54 wifi signals at any time. This is a very high number and this is likely to be the cause of the issues with the microphone and picture sending as they are generally spread over only 11 or so separate frequencies. These signals will be from various sources including the inhouse POS system, upstairs flats and the inhouse public wifi network amongst others.
As I said on Thursday night, I had a charity event at Fir Park, Motherwell a couple of weeks ago. There were 175 people there in 29 teams in a very large room. I was surprised, and happy, to find there was not a single issue.
I will continue to monitor the situation and make every attempt to resolve the issues. I may have to resort to using a wired microphone. This will have an impact on how the quiz is run. I would be stuck to operating close to the mixer because of safety issues. Buzzing rounds would be disjointed as you would have to shout your answers to me and I won’t be able to wander about keeping an eye out for anyone cheating.
