Wednesday 22nd May 2019 saw the very first, and successful, SpeedQuiz event at The Coalgate with no surprises to the identity of the winning team.
The Winners
Experienced team Dumb & Dumber arrived in the last 5 minutes before the quiz and showed everybody else how to SpeedQuiz. The experienced fast fingers and the know-how of the finer points of the quiz allowed them an advantage over all the brand new SpeedQuizzers on the night. Just wait until the next time when your handicap will have a big impact hehehehe!
New Venue
The Coalgate were happy to give SpeedQuizzing a trial run so I was there at 7pm getting ready. Until about 7:55pm it was looking like there was only going to be 2 teams but in a last minute rush, we ended up with 7 teams and 21 people in total. This is the best turnout for a first time quiz I have had.
Until we see how busy this is going to be we are holding the quiz in the main bar with a view to moving to the small function room when numbers indicate we should do so.
There was very possible feedback, except from the original Mr Grumpy, so I see this becoming very busy in the near future.
Scoreboard
Last place went to the Windae Lickers who were officially the tubes of the night winning the tubes of Mini Eggs. Their last place was a bit of a surprise considering we had the School Night Seshers. Now, I don’t know these guys but they had no points scored for most of the first round. I would say they are pretty thick but…….hell no, they are ‘pretty thick’! Thankfully we have a handicapping system to level the playing filed, these guys are going to need it!

Our next visit to The Coalgate is on Wednesday 26th June 2019 at 7pm. Get along early to get your seat, I have a feeling there won’t be many left next time.
