Two Weeks On The Trot?

Scoreboard
We’re experiencing a flurry of close finishes lately. The Lonely Wino has come out on top for the second consecutive week, with Team With No Name and Newbies trailing closely behind heading into the Nearest Wins Question. Simple Minds clinched the Nearest Wins Question, worth 100 points, earning them a respectable third place finish.
Interesting Fact
During the music round, we played a song from the War of the Worlds album and asked who was responsible for it. Due to it being a letter answer, several teams managed to get it correct. However, it was pointed out to me by a single team that I had actually typed the wrong answer while compiling the question. As a result, they qualified for a 50-point bonus.
I asked them if they wanted to claim the bonus on the night or carry it forward to the next week, and they chose the latter.
I initially gave the answer as Jeff Wayne, but it should have been Jeff Lynne. While it was commendable that the team pointed out the error, it was ultimately the wrong decision to defer the bonus to the following week. If the Team with No Name had claimed the points on the night, they would have won the quiz with a total of 1226 points.
CORRECTION: THE ANSWER I ORIGINALLY PROVIDED WAS IN FACT CORRECT. IT WAS JEFF WAYNE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WAR OF THE WORLDS ALBUM! NO 50 POINTS NEXT WEEK!
Four of our top teams had a rough night at the quiz. Creepy Blinders, Zoo Crew, Scrambled Eggheads, and a full-strength The Boys from Brazil struggled at the bottom of the scoreboard.
Worst Team Of The Night
Tonight’s “crappy team” award goes to one of our typically better performing teams, The Boys from Brazil, who finished at the bottom of the scoreboard. They will proudly claim the 50-point “numpty” bonus at the next quiz night.
Jackpot Games
We had no jackpot winner this week
The Play Your Cards Right jackpot has been steadily increasing each week as no one has been able to claim the prize. The jackpot for next week will start at £135, and it will be further boosted by the entry fees collected on the night.
As for the BIG game, Open The Box, the jackpot prize was set at £355 but remained unclaimed during the quiz. This means that the prize pool will be raised to £370 for the next edition.
Music Bingo
Our theme for this week’s Music Bingo was ‘ROCK 3’, featuring a mix of classic rock tunes and lesser-known tracks. Congratulations to The Boys from Brazil for winning the full house prize, as rock music is their forte. Their cash prize might have brought a smile to their faces since they were last on the quiz..
If you have any ideas for new music bingo themes, please share them with us. We are always on the lookout for fresh ideas.
For this week’s game, we paid out £18 for two vertical lines and £45 for the full house. Join us again next week for another exciting round of Music Bingo.
Book Your Table Now!
Due to the increasing number of teams attending the quiz, it is now more important than ever to book your tables in advance. We have a large number of regular teams, and even a few irregular ones showing up on busy nights can fill up the Cuddie Brae quickly.
To ensure a spot, we suggest reserving your favourite table through the Cuddie Brae booking site at least a week in advance.
If you are looking to attend regularly, please speak to Nick, who will be happy to help you get a regular booking.
Direct link to the Cuddie Brae booking page: Book | Cuddie Brae | Greene King Local Pubs (greeneking-pubs.co.uk)
If you leave it too late and can’t book online, contact the Cuddie Brae directly by Facebook or phone on 0131 657 1212. You never know, your table ‘might’ still be available.
Get In Early!
It would be greatly appreciated if all teams could arrive and be ready by 7:15 pm. This will allow time to resolve any connection issues and implement the handicapping system before the quiz begins.
It is important to let Nick at the Cuddie know if you have a table booked and cannot attend for any reason. This helps with table management and avoids any unnecessary issues.
Please make sure to inform Nick if you cannot attend. Not only will this help with table management at future quizzes, but Nick will also appreciate your cooperation.
